| Let's Try Blogging Some Hoop! |

I'm still recuperating from my trip to the San Francisco Convergence of 9/11 Truthers, and thought it would be a good time to try blogging during game 5 of the Lakers series versus the Jazz.
The game just started.
Are the Pistons still in it?
10 - 4 Lakers.
The pace may be too quick to blog, but we'll see.
I saw a commercial centered on a soccer player during a game last night.
I've seen John Madden advertising athlete's foot powder too.
KPFK did a story on record peeking a day or two ago, I recall.
I did some more time at the beach today. I took a nice walk in the surf. Not the warmest day, and the water took a little getting used to, but it's hard to go wrong at the beach, especially this time of year.
I need to check out Speed Racer. The commercials remind me so much of Stun Runner. I gotta get a console of that game one day.
It was awesome.
Hmmm...
It appears that the Powers&Morrison site is still on the server, but for how long, I really don't know.
San Fran was really nice. I took footage of the demonstrations.
I met a lot of interesting people, and started getting re-acquainted with a city I once knew pretty well.
Strange to think that I hadn't been there in 17 years.
The deYoung Museum was simply astounding.
Here's that soccer commercial again. Lots of photographs, a woofer, a cell phone... no, it's a personal data manager, or something.
BlackBerry.
WNBA commercial. They start on May 17th.
I've flown Southwest once or twice.
KEARTH 101 has had some interesting commercials. Kaiser Permanente sounds like its looking for hi-tech people to work in the medical field.
There's some surgical group using a device named, da Vinci to perform orthopedic surgeries.
Was that Hope Medical?
I think I heard something about Cedars-Sinai too, but on KTLK, I reckon...
I just watched another segment of Simon Schama's Power of Art. I got introduced to Caravaggio, a disturbed painter who lived in the seamier parts of cultured Italian cities.
Pretty intense guy. I want to watch it again soon.
19 - 13 Lakers.
Jazz player just shot a free throw.
19 - 14 Lakers. Lakers working the ball. Missed the 3-pointer.
Jazz hit a long two...
Lakers at the top of the key with the ball. 7 left on the clock.
THREE!!!
Nice bucket.
I need to get to know the Laker players...
Jazz miss. Lakers rebound. ANOTHER THREE!!!
What's that guy's name? something avitch?
Jazz miss again. Jazz get the ball back from the lkers. Jazz hit a long two. 25 - 18 Lakers.
Laker time-out. Byron Scott used to hit those long balls. Some people told me back in the late '80s that I looked like Byron Scott.
More people told me that I resembled Magic Johnson, though...
I used to reply, "I'd rather have his paycheck."
Heh-heh!
LiveJournal locked up. I think I lost a lot of text.
Oh well.
Dinner time.
***
I'm kind of annoyed that LiveJournal didn't save a substantial block of text, but I don't think there's anything I can do about it.
It's halftime, and they're showing highlights of the Celtics game earlier today.
I'm still kind of annoyed...
I need to jog tonight.
Barkley looks kind of comical in glasses.
Hmmm... Some truck company is doing really interesting commercials. I think it's Dodge.
I just found out that Obama won Nebraska. CNN hasn't mentioned it. They want to harp on Clinton's win in West Virginia...
Let's take a look at the results. Hillary closed Obama's lead by 12 delegates in WV.
In Nebraska however, Obama won 8 more delegates. Thus, Clinton netted 4 last night.
This is a joke. CNN is making this look like Clinton's on the verge of winning.
I haven't paid much attention, because their coverage is so overblown, and ignores the war, that I feel pretty blase about it.
What happened to that domestic spending bill that had war funding included with it?
I called Rep, John Campbell, and told him to vote against it, on the advice of MoveOn.
I told his staffer, anyway.
Whoa! Obama won 67% to 32% in Nebraska. Clinton won 66% to 25% in West Virginia.
Similar margins of victory. And Obama can't win with working class whites?
CNN's discourse on the matter strikes me as silly. It sounds like CNN's imagining reasons that Obama can't win.
69 - 69. The first tie of the game. Jazz with the ball.
The announcer said that there hasn't been a lead change in this series.
Lakers missed, and a Jazz player was unable to convert.
Lakers miss. Jazz driving. 3-pointer missed. Bryant. Lays it in.
Odom scored. 73 - 68 Lakers.
Jazz scored a short two.
Kobe missed a dunk. Oh. His name is "Radmanovic." Kobe missed two free throws.
The pace has slowed some...
Jazz stole a pass.
75 - 73 Lakers.
**
End of 3rd Quarter.
81 - 81.
Ought to be a great finish. It's been tied up three times.
6:19 AM GMT
Game's nearing the end. Fast quarter.
101 - 97 Lakers. We just got a technical foul. Jazz hit a 3-pointer as the shot clock ran out.
101 - 100 Lakers. Jazz have never led.
Lakers... Odom slams one home. Take it LA. Take it.
Jazz get two, rebounding a 3-pointer that missed. Kobe. No shots this quarter. Two for LA.
Now it's exciting... Jazz miss a 3-pointer. Under a minute to go. Lakers with the ball and the lead. 105 - `102.
Lakers just slammed home the victory. 107 - 102 20 seconde to go.
Dan-what-ovich?
That's basically it.
Jazz inbounding. Missed a 3-pointer. Lakers rebound. Foul. Lakers shooting... Missed first shot. Made the second one.
I need to upload a lot of video...
Jazz inbounding. Two. 11 seconds left. Boozer fouls Kobe.
I need to sign-up for the MLS video, so I can catch the Gals.
How are they doing, by the way? They've been kicking butt up and down the league lately. It ought to be a great season.
Lakers rebound a Jazz shot. Kobe fouled again. 110 - 105 Lakers. Made the first shot. I love the buzzers in basketball. I don't know why they sound off half the time. Second shot - missed.
Final buzzer.
111 - 104 final.
Feeling tired. Should I link this one up?
2:44 PM GMT
Had a pretty nice night of sleep. I don't want to close it right now. I think linking it will be fun, but I'll have to get to it later.
I'm still revving up here.
Back later.

Well, a little later. (Still recovering from the trip, you might say.)
The first installment of Cranford is starting up.
Looks interesting. The resolution could be better for full screen, but it's on par with other things you view on-line.
Hmmm... It's looking better than it did initially.
Politics
I need to look in on Iraq Veterans Against the War, to get feedback on their interlude with Congress.
It's unfortunate that Congress voted to continue funding the war through summer of next year, and I'm sure that the group is upset at the myopia and continued failure of our employees.
Arts & Entertainment
The transitions between clips are somewhat abrupt.
It's making me wonder about the medical profession like I once did.
I held surgery in very high regard once.
It's still interesting, but I'm not too endeared to the environment.
The FA Cup's on, but I'll catch a rebroadcast. I would've watched it live, but I'm in the mood for theater at present.
What a cute little kitty! :)
I beginning to get the feel of the film. I perceive it as a series of vignettes of life in the town.
I think I'll go through the second episode. Something about it is very inviting.
I want to make sure I catch the final installment on the telly.
Bessie Dearest! LOL
(You have to watch the show to know what I'm talking about.)
Yeah. I do want to watch the second episode. I'm not on top of everything, but I sense that things are just warming up...
Interesting. I'm looking forward to the conclusion, but it doesn't seem like there's enough time to finish off the story.
I think it's a trilogy. This presentation probably just covers the first book (or part of it).
Let's see...
Wrong. I'm not sure how I got the impression that Cranford was a triolgy.
Literature of Victorian England is all very fresh material for me.
My siblings read things like this while growing up, but it wasn't in my curriculum at all.
I had no idea why anybody would be interested in it, to be honest.
Lemeethink... Did I read ANY literature of this nature? I can rattle off titles, and am sure I've flipped through works of that stature, but nothing that affected me deeply comes to mind.
My sister gave me Lord of the Flies for a birthday, many years ago, but I never read all of it. It just didn't grab me.
It's from the 20th Century, but borrowed heavily from a book written in 1857.
That tells you just how deeply I got into it. :)
There must have been something...
I remember hearing book reports by classmates on books like Wuthering Heights, and Jane Eyre. My older sister liked, Little Women.
Oops! Wrong country. I thought maybe Little Women was set in the U.S...
Let's see if I can get an overview of the genre.
This looks helpful.
TA DA!!
Hmmm...
I don't know why I find this so compelling... I think it's the fact that the subject matter is so unfamiliar to me.
It makes me wonder what I've missed.
Every expression has something of value to offer, even if it doesn't speak directly to one's own experiences...
This attitude can indeed, make picking music, museums, reading material, and other things, difficult to perform!
Okay, Victorian Lit...let's take a gander.
My Older brother liked Dickens, particularly David Copperfield.
Funny. I was just about to ask myself, "Who wrote Oliver Twist?", when I saw it in the list of notable works.
I linked it about a year ago, or so. I didn't read the entry then, but I must have noticed something about the author...
Back on topic. Victorian Literature.
I must've known that at some time in my life...
Dickens' Wikipedia entry claims that nothing he has written has ever gone out of print.
I find that amazing. No, shocking.
Back to VicLit...
Okay, I'm saved.
I've actually read some of the classics.
Thanks, Lew.
I read Alice in Wonderland in my high school AP English class.
Good book.
Does Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. count?
Nope. It was written in the mid-20th Century.
Oompa, Loompa...
Interesting commentary on the original Oompa Loompas...
Back to the 19th Century...
Hmmm... I remember seeing the TV presentation Disraeli many, many years ago. I didn't know he was an author.
That link wasn't the film I saw. I think the Disraeli I recall was a miniseries on PBS.
I think he dressed flamboyantly, and one major scene in the film was the time he finally decided to dress in black, like everybody else.
It raised eyebrows among some of his colleagues.
Maybe I ought to donate to KCET. I'm beginning to sense that there is going to be a lot of very relevant programming coming up, especially considering the times we are living in.
Or maybe, KOCE.
Off-topic again.
Victorian Lit...
Lots of interesting bits of information to gnaw on here...
Back to the style of the Victorian novel...
Idealized world...fundamental values win out. What the British wanted to believe about themselves? What we would all want to believe, I suppose, not only about ourselves, but of the world in general...
I get the impression that the literature became more cynical as the period ended.
Adam Bede sounds completely out of character for that kind of novel to me.
It makes me think of Jack the Ripper.
Aside from the death of Dickens, what might have brought this on?
Boredom? Disillusionment with the culture? Accelerating change?
Hmmm...
I don't expect to become an expert from a few Wikipedia readings...I need to ponder the topic. It's clearly quite vast, and commentary pertaining to it is far more so, I'm certain.
I want to take a quick peek at the history of Western Literature...
It's quite a can of worms.
Since this is supposed to be a blog that promotes global consciousness, let's take a look at literature from other parts of the world too.
Hmmm... I think it's a little late in life to try to become an expert in global literature.
Then again...who knows what technology will pop up?
Instant learning may be just around the corner. :)
Winding Down, Sort of
10:09 PM GMT
Well, I've got a lot planned for this weekend in cyberspace, and I want to get outside for a while first.
I saw Speed Racer last night. If you liked the show, you'll enjoy the movie.
I came out of the theater kind of giggly. I feel like I ought to see it again.
There'll definitely be a sequel.
I thought they changed the buttons around...
I need a break. I'll discuss it more later.
I can hear the theme song now. It's funny. I don't know why, it just is...
There was simply too much to look at. It was overwhelming in its visual imagery. I found I wasn't that interested in the plot, though there definitely was one.
I think that's why I felt like I needed to see it again. So I can find out what actually happened...
[giggle]
I need to do some skating. I feel this strange urge to enter a race.
Back in a while.
Zonked,
